PLANNING YOUR WEDDING CAKE
Planning a wedding can be stressful! We know. Our goal, at Iana Bakery, is to guide you through the cake portion of your wedding planning as smoothly as possible. That is also why we have provided this need to know guide to let you know a little more about what to expect and what questions you will need to answer.
Step one is to look at our WEDDING CAKES GALLERY. It is important to remember that these are NOT all the cakes that are available, only the few examples we put online. We have more options to choose from in store. We are also able to work from cake pictures or examples you may find online, in magazines or from designs drawn up by yourself. We have a skilled team of artists and designers at Iana Bakery that can truly give you the cake of your dreams.
For available flavours, check out our FLAVOURS PAGE. Because of the nature of wedding cake design and construction, certain flavours cannot be used. For example, Tiramisu, Cheese Cake/Marble Cheese Cake, and Sfolia are not available on most wedding cakes.
THINGS TO DECIDE
1. What is your budget?
When wedding planning, your budget should be considered with EVERY aspect. You should know the total budget for your wedding and also how much of it is earmarked for your cake. Then you have to decide what you want from your cake (STEP 2 BELOW). The way to look at a wedding cake is not the TOTAL price but to look at the PRICE PER PERSON. The rule of thumb is that the fancier and more complex a cake is, the more it will cost PER PERSON. WE OFFER WEDDING CAKES STARTING AT JUST $2.00 PER PERSON! Rest assured, no matter what your budget is we always find a way to get you the cake of your dreams.
2. What do you want from your cake?
Some people want their cake to be the center piece. They want it to wow their friends and family and make a real statement. Some people just want to feed their family and friends some delicious cake and not bust the bank. When planning your wedding, decide what you want from your cake design. It is important to know what you want from your cake as it will influence both the price and the design. The one thing we can guarantee is that no matter what kind of cake you have in mind, it will both look great and be absolutely delicious.
3. Should you tell us your budget?
YES. The reason is simple. If we know your budget then we can guide you towards cakes in your price range. This will not just save time, but also, just as when dress shopping, the last thing we want is for you to fall in love with a cake that might not be in the budget.
4. How many people is your cake for?
The corner stone of wedding planning is knowing how many people will be at your celebration. Once you know that, you need to decide whether you want a slice for everyone at the wedding, or just a portion of the people attending, it is important to know how many people you want to feed, because that will obviously influence how large the cake should be, which is the starting point of the whole process. We use the Wilton Cake Cutting Guide to describe the slice sizes, which are 1”X2”X4”.
5. What type of cake do you want?
There are many different types of cakes. From modern to traditional, from slab cakes to multi-tiered. The options are endless. We have some terrific albums and catalogs for you to look through at our bakery, but it never hurts to do some research before you come in. Look online at the pictures on our website as well as in wedding magazines. If you have a specific cake in mind, you can always bring in a picture and we can work from that picture. But remember, the more you know about what you want, the smoother things will go.
6. When should you order (how much notice should you give)?
Look at it this way. You are planning your wedding and that is the only one you have to worry about, but we are part of many peoples wedding plans. Our advice is like this. If you know the cake you want and you are happy with the price, BOOK IT! The more notice the better. Ordering last minute is never a good idea. Of course we have done last minute cakes, but ordering last minute narrows your options and usually makes the cake more expensive as our bakers and designers have to work overtime. On busy weekends, last minute orders are rejected because there is no way we can get them done properly without compromising the quality (and we refuse to compromise our quality!). The point is this, order far in advance. You will get the exact cake you want, how you want it, and when you want it.
7. Do you want delivery?
We do offer delivery. BUT, it is not free. We charge for delivery based on the distance and time involved. Our advice is that if you want to save some money, picking up your cake is usually a good idea with 1 and 2 tier cakes. Some smaller 3 tier cakes can be picked up if you are a good driver and have enough space for it in your vehicle. However, we suggest delivery on most 3 tier cakes and larger.
8. Time to schedule a tasting!
Time to give us a call! Call us at 905-890-3860 or e-mail us at email@example.com to set up a tasting. And remember, we offer other sweets and can organize your entire sweet table if you like.
